They Also Serve..

Aww.. I'm not even a dog person but Porthos is a lovely beagle and having him padding about the ship or lounging in Archer's quarters is ever a nice touch.

Kate Mulgrew Interview

Here's a lovely interview Kate gave from set of Voyager just before the first episode aired. I'm always impressed with how she talks about Janeway and the show with such enthusiasm and respect. She continues that through the whole seven seasons in interviews, always talking of Janeway as a real person. Her affection for the character she creates (rather than merely plays) is very evident.

Interviewer: "This is a weighty mantle you've assumed."

Kate Mulgrew: "Is it? I think it's rather grand."

Interviewer: "a female captain" What was this, 1960?!

The Tribble Barrel

A long time ago, in what really is a galaxy far far away Star Trek did not exist on the internet and fandom was conducted by hunting and gathering. First, you needed money in order to obtain fandom and then you needed to be near actual resources of the fandom. Fandom also arrived in the mail though as akid this took an enormous amount of wrangling with parents to achieve.. I think I was 20 before I realized that writing a check was not on par with filling out a multiple paged government form. Having the 5.95 required for a fandom related subscription was the easy part, getting my parents to write a check was a herculean task. Because of this fandom for me consisted almost entirely of B. Dalton's bookstore but that wasn't really fandom.. once all 20 something Trek books in existence had been purchased the only thing left to do was look at new covers of the books I already had.

But then the most amazing thing happened. I discovered Sha Ka Ree only a bus ride away. It was..

THE STAR TREK STORE.

Otherwise known as The Federation Trading Post. I am thrilled to find these photos from Doug Drexler of that wonderful little hole in the wall treasure palace. Fanzines galore! Hilarious stickers! Mini view finders! I still have the one I bought with a photo from The Paradise Syndrome in it. Masks, props, and many many posters. T-shirts. Greeting cards. It was absolutely wonderful.

In the middle of it was a barrel of tribbles. One of the tribbles I bought from this barrel is still with me (sadly, sterile).

Such great memories! That store had more Trek stuff in one place than I've seen at any convention. TOS heyday I guess.. and a lot of fun it was.

Whoa. So much talent. But in what?

Maybe someone can explain to me why I like this so much.

I approve of this, enough with the flower stuff! There are a few more cake pics to be found at Global Geek News. The Picard one is seriously creepy. I mean.. you have to cut his head open!

Happy Birthday William Shatner!

Happy Birthday Mr. Shatner. Thank you for EVERYTHING. May you live long and prosper another 80 years!

Captain Kathryn Janeway

Okay peoples, as many of you know Janeway is now DEAD in Treklit land. Killed off in an incredibly badly written TNG book. Unrecognizable as Janeway in how she was written in that book. Yet to return despite the Q element thrown in at the end to facilitate this possibility.

This disturbs me. I don't wish to play the blame game of this editor, that author blah blah.. the actual structure of TPTB decisions is hidden in the mists of mishmash. Let's focus on bringing her back, not why such a turd of a book was written in the first place.

You can write to the publishers, editors and sundry PTB asking for Janeway's return, addresses at the Bring Back Janeway campaign. You can join this Facebook Group, Bring Back Kathryn Janeway now 800+ strong. You can republish the pic below or make your own better one and get the message out there simply and visually. We are a voice that won't be silenced by the fanboy contingent that rejoices in Kathryn Janeway being DEAD at last. People don't buy books because they are glad someone is dead, they buy books because they love a character and Captain Kathryn Janeway is very well loved.
